B1 SELT | ISE I | English test for Skilled Worker, Health and Care Worker, Scale-up Worker and Student visa

Applicants for certain UK work and study visas must demonstrate their English proficiency by passing a Secure English Language Test (SELT) at CEFR level B1. The ISE I test, covering Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening, is an accepted assessment to meet these requirements.

Who Needs the B1 SELT | ISE I Test?

The following visa categories require a minimum of B1 level proficiency:

• Skilled Worker Visa – for individuals moving to the UK to take on skilled roles.
• Health and Care Worker Visa – for healthcare professionals seeking employment in the UK’s health and care sector.
• Scale-up Worker Visa – for individuals joining UK businesses experiencing rapid growth.
• Student Visa – UKVI generally requires B1 level for this visa, though some institutions may require B2. Please confirm specific requirements with your educational sponsor.
